Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling… –Hebrews 3:1.

True wisdom dawns in gradual rays,
Minute degrees observed as nil.
Beyond the books of youthful days,
It beckons thee to yonder hill.
Forbear and press in patient ways...
“Forward! Upward! Higher still!”

At times we fret with downcast soul,
Our courage wanes in blasting chill.
We’ve failed the earthly honor roll,
Diminished hope, dejected will.
But hark the sound, the ringing toll...
“Forward! Upward! Higher still!”

Temptations rise and pleasures call,
They barter truth for empty thrill.
Those who yield are those who fall,
Achieving not God’s blessed will.
Sowing flesh shall reap but gall...
“Forward! Upward! Higher still!”

In days of brimming youthful years,
With dreams afresh to seek and fill.
A humble heart will stay more tears,
Than all of life’s great wit and will.
He who wins is he who hears...
“Forward! Upward! Higher still!”
