The year of 2019 has been one of challenges and changes for us here at *The Berean Voice*\. We realize this magazine issue is coming out much later than anticipated, for this we are sorry\. There have been several difficulties that were holding us up, but we are thankful that the Lord has been providing answers and a clear way forward\. Please keep reading to get a fuller picture\. \(In answer to potential questions, we are on track to short circuit our normal flow of the printing schedule so that we should be back on schedule for the summer issue, which will be two issues from now\.\) We have been going through some growing pains as we endeavor to reach around to cover all our responsibilities\. Our vision is to operate with minimal paid staff and with minimal “in stock” resources, in an effort to keep costs down\. However, due to this, we have not been able to satisfactorily respond to all the requests that have been coming in\. If any of our readers have faced difficulties due to this lack of response, we apologize and ask for your understanding as we go through this time of growth\. As most of you are aware, The Berean Voice is a ministry arm of Faith Christian Fellowship, a church in Holmes County, Ohio\. This ministry started in 2015 with a focus on providing biblically wholesome literature and audio recordings of biblical teaching, with a specific emphasis on assisting individual churches with research and awareness on issues that are facing the church of today that tend to be somewhat challenging\. One of the goals was to start periodically publishing a doctrinal magazine\. During our pursuit of this venture, we were asked to revive *The Heartbeat of the Remnant*, a magazine that was at that time in temporary retirement\. We discussed the many different pros and cons of taking this on, and after much prayer and consideration decided that this was the Lord’s will for us\. As we look back over the last four plus years, we can wholeheartedly say along with Samuel *…Hitherto hath the LORD helped us –1Sa 7:12\.* There have been mountains and valleys, there have been joys and sorrows, there have been blessings and wonderings\. Through it all God has been faithful\. Looking back, we see two specific areas of difficulty that continue to follow us going forward\. The first one is that since *The Heartbeat of the Remnant* had been regularly published for approximately twenty years it was quite well known and associated with the previous publishers\. This has tended to create confusion for our readers regarding the relationship between *The Berean Voice* and *The Heartbeat of the Remnant*\. In simple terms *The Berean Voice* is the overall ministry arm, and *The Heartbeat of the Remnant* is our magazine which is published on a quarterly basis\. However, the magazine is not the only part of our ministry efforts\. We also are working to develop an inventory of audio recordings on various pertinent subjects as well as an inventory of printed literature such as books, booklets, or leaflets pertaining to similar subject matter\. We are also actively developing a growing discipleship ministry helping others sort through some of the more difficult issues of life\. ### Financial Needs Met The second area of confusion has been that most folks tend to consider our magazine a “free” subscription magazine\. Yes, it is free since it is available without a subscription charge, but NO it is not free, because it still costs money for publishing and mailing\. Over the years we have tried to encourage folks to stop looking at the magazine as a subscription\-based periodical that is free, but instead start realizing that it is a part of a ministry effort that includes much more than a quarterly magazine\. The only way our ministry, including the magazine, will be able to continue is if God’s people recognize the value and asset of the overall work of *The Berean Voice* and maintain their financial contributions for the work on a regular basis\. We had been at the point of not having enough funds to continue, so in November of 2019 we sent out a newsletter to most of our readers in the U\.S\. clearly defining our need\. It has been a tremendous blessing to see how God has moved in the hearts of many of you to support the work\. The outpouring of donations was above and beyond what we could have hoped for—thank you\! This renewed interest in our work by all of you who have chosen to partner with us will allow us to start responding to many of the needs that were coming in, but we were not able to assist due to lack of funds\. Again, a big thank you to all who have so generously given of your finances\! *Please see the financial report included on page 11\.* ### The Need for Writers This brings us to another difficulty that we still are struggling with\. Our goal from the beginning has been to provide articles that are originals \(not previously published elsewhere\)\. This is not set in stone and we have used some pre\-published articles here and there, but we wish to keep moving in this direction\. So, this is another area where you as our readers can become involved and partner with us if the Lord so moves in your heart\. We specifically need children’s stories \(for children between the ages of 8\-12\) with a biblically moral lesson, sister’s articles \(in the spirit of Titus 2\), and youth articles \(ones that are true to life and interesting\)\. Before deciding to write, you should give attention to our “reprint policy/publisher rights” which is detailed at the top of the “writer’s guidelines” form on page 33\. If you wish to contribute, we ask that you fill out the “contributor’s agreement” which is at the center of this magazine and send it along when submitting an article or poem\. If possible, all submissions should be sent as a Word document or PDF to *submit@bereanvoice\.org\.* If email is not an option, submissions may also be sent in the mail\.
