Lord, this pain seems unbearable\.
Things once loved now must die\.
So many hearts are bleeding\.
No one has kept a dry eye\.
We’ve wept and writhed and prayed
Asking, Lord, this cup to avoid\.
We tried what we thought might change it,
But all attempts seemed to return to us void\.
Father, we’ve cried out for mercy,
All would have escaped this pain\.
But Lord, You bade us go through it;
Your hand in it all You’ve made plain\.
Our minds seem to spin as we ponder,
Just exactly what You’re trying to do\.
Yet we know that no matter our feelings,
There’s a reason we this storm must go through\.
So Father, we bow at Your feet now,
Acknowledging Your omnipotent might\.
We cannot discern all the details,
But we trust in the end, all will be right\.
Help us, Father, to be broken,
Releasing our all up to You\.
Our rights, dreams, ambitions, and possessions,
Making everything open to Your view\.
Grow in us, Lord, a humility,
Quiet, yet deep and true\.
It’s a jewel that nothing but trials can teach\.
Lord, through this, make us more like You\!
May our eyes be set on You, Father,
Not on this o’erwhelming gale\.
For You have gone through these deep waters,
Nothing but what You plan will prevail\.
Obedient even unto death, Lord,
No matter how high the cost may seem\.
Give us a vision of the heavenly treasure,
For which no earthly price can exceed\.
