# A Suffering Savior

He was born in a stable, meant for beasts of the field\.
It was from the beginning that His will He would yield\.
He was never well\-liked; despised by all men;
Laughed to scorn, reviled—again, and again\.
Yes, His mission on this earth was unusual indeed,
Not seeking money and friends or trying to succeed\.
He knew His purpose was to please His Father,
With the trifles of earth, He would not bother\.
It surely wasn’t easy, to be the King of kings\.
And suffer as a criminal, taking what that brings\.
Ten thousand angels, He could have summoned south,
But the stricken Savior opened not His mouth\.
With His eyes on the reward, He persevered the pain;
Was cruelly stripped and beaten, and ultimately slain\.
But why would He suffer so willingly there;
Enduring the cross, all the pain He did bear?
Because He treasured us, an atonement for our sin
He made when He bled and died there to make us His kin\!
I thank God now for that sacrifice so great;
Providing the Lamb and transforming my fate\.
I say, “A wonderful Savior, is Jesus my Lord;”
Now the Father and I—a relationship restored\!
