# Only in the Darkness

Is it only in the heartbreak,  
 When confusion ‘round me churns,  
 That I truly seek my Savior’s arms  
 And my will toward Him turns?

Is it only in the darkness,  
 When I cannot see my way;  
 Or when asked of something I do not know  
 That I think to stop and pray?

Is it only when I feel  
 The force of evil ‘round me gathered,  
 That I seek for His protection;  
 To in His arms be sheltered?

Oh, foolish heart of mine\!  
 How can you call Him your best friend  
 When it’s only in your trials  
 That on Him you will depend?

In good times too, you need Him,  
 Perhaps more desperately;  
 Since it’s easier to forget to seek  
 When the way you think you see\.

Even when you fail to hear Him,  
 When by His side you fail to stay,  
 He will hear you when you cry to Him  
 And on Him your troubles lay\.

But how much better it would be  
 To earnestly seek His face  
 As much in the smoother times of life  
 As in the rougher place\!

To seek and to search, to stay by His side,  
 To share the joy and the sorrow,  
 The unknowns in His hands, He’ll be at your side  
 For whatever may come in tomorrow\.
